Austrian Catholic Centre - A place like home
For over 50 years the Austrian Catholic Centre in London has provided a welcoming place for Austrians and a home from home. We build relationships and form a common bond which helps us face the challenges of day to day life in London. Together we aim to work out solutions when difficult situations and circumstances arise. As we are located in London we feel that we can help you become accustomed to the fast pace of London life and the feeling of being alone in a large city. The process of globalisation shows itself here in London as overwhelming and as part of a strategy. Because of that, increasingly a more deepened communication of culture and religion within the context of the ‘New Europe’ is needed. The Austrian Catholic Centre welcomes Austrians from all social and religious backgrounds. Our expression of hospitality makes it possible to communicate a piece of Austrian identity on a personal level.
An old latin text describes the spirit of god as ‘hospes animae’.
’Hospes’ - the stranger, ‘anima’ – the breath or the soul.
What is hard to translate nowadays,
is quality in the meeting, in which the stranger can catch its breath
and so become a welcomed friend. The term ‘Hospitality’ originates from there.
